Why this training

Romanian is now one of the most common main languages in England and Wales. At the 2021 Census, 472,000 people used it as their main language. Services meet Romanian-speaking women every day, yet very little training addresses this community specifically.

What you will learn

  • What UK services often don't know about Romanian-speaking women: why many never use the word "abuse", and the questions that close the door.
  • How family pressure, shame and fear of authorities shape disclosure.
  • What can be misread: Romanian expressions of affection, loud voices and discipline.
  • The barriers these survivors face: language, EU Settlement Scheme status, economic abuse, insecure housing and transnational abuse.
  • How to work safely with interpreters, and why she should never be left alone with a man.
  • Free legal and practical routes many professionals don't know about, including FLOWS and the Romanian Consulate.
  • A practical checklist for assessment, safety planning and referral.
